Kristine Yahn, RN, MBA is the Executive Director for Californians for Patient Care. This is a new nonprofit organization whose mission is to ensure that the voice of the patient is heard in all health care-related discussions. Women play a key decision-making role in health care for their families. CPC wants to be sure the public is educated about health care issues as to they are discussed by policy-makers and various stakeholder groups. Relying on the news media and stakeholder group rhetoric often leads to misinformation.
This group would like to speak to the Soroptimist Clubs in Northern California. Kristine Yahn is a nurse with 36 years experience in health care, from staff nursing to nursing leadership and health care policy. For additional information you can check their website at: www.calpatientcare.org. They recently added a section to the website to track health care-related legislation. Another member of this organization is their communications director who is on top of policy and politics.
Possible topics for group discussions would be:
- Navigation of the System: Advocating for yourself or a loved one who is receiving health care.
- A National Issue: The institute of Medicine's Aims for Improving Health Care in the United States.
- Who Will Care for Us?: The Nursing shortage and its implications for the future.
This group is located at 1029 K Street Suite 23, Sacramento, California 95814; Phone 916-444-5255 or .
Because of the distance a speaker would be traveling to our clubs in Northern California they would prefer an audience of at least 20 or more. Clubs closer together might consider a joint meeting.
