THEME: "THE SONG OF SOROPTIMIST - BEAT THE DRUMS, LOUD AND CLEAR"
This was our "Ruby" biennium with the theme "The Song of Soroptimist - Beat the Drums, Loud and Clear." It was a term with the full realization that every Soroptimist "has something of importance to offer and that every offering is needed if we are to fulfil our goals and meet the challenge of an ever-changing world."
It was this biennium that the governor was able to report that every club in the region made a contribution to the American Federation Foundation and Endowment Fund.
Southwestern region was hostess to the SFA convention in San Francisco in July 1962.
Firsts during this biennium were: The Harriett Tyler IGU award, which was given to the club with the most outstanding service in the area of IGU; the Blanche Edgar trophy for the club with the greatest work in extension, including increase in membership; the Sarah G. Hammond Gerontology award was presented; a "necrology list" for the Memorial Redwood Grove was on display; and a Regional Youth Citizenship award was given and Southwestern's winner went on to become the first SFA winner.
Four Soroptimist clubs and three "S" clubs were chartered this biennium.
