Nancy Walker Becomes SIA President

Founder Region Holds Celebration Dinner at Convention
by Cathy Mitchell

On July 20, 2002 Founder Region hosted a dinner to honor Nancy Walker, incoming Federation President, to welcome our new Governor, Mary Ann Redden, and to say goodbye and thank you to Past Governor Carol Rose. This Fiesta themed event was held during the Soroptimist International of the Americas Convention in San Diego, California. Approximately 70 people attended, including Nancy's daughter, son, and son-in-law.

The Fiesta featured a Mexican buffet and drinks. After dinner, Governor Mary Ann asked a representative from each district to come forward and convey their best wishes and funny stories, if they had any, to Nancy. After the six representatives spoke, the microphone was available to anyone who wished to speak. There was a lot of laughter, thank yous, and best wishes.

Governor Mary Ann presented President Nancy with a gift of peridot earrings (her birthstone) from the Region.

Governor-elect Cathy Mitchell spoke about serving on the Board with Past Governor Carol and related some funny stories that happened during that time. Past Governor Carol was then presented with a small gift from the Region, a glass cutting board.

Governor Mary Ann was given a Soroptimist sweatshirt as a welcome and good luck gift for the beginning of her biennium. Everyone enjoyed a wonderful evening of fun and laughter. Founder Region is very proud to have the incoming President of Soroptimist International of the Americas as a member of our region.
