Aloha Kona -- 2002

"Founder Region Conference 2002 in Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii is going to be as authentic Hawaiian as we can make it", said Governor Carol Rose. The conference will start early on Friday, May 3 and conclude in the early afternoon on Sunday, May 5. Events, however, are planned for conference attendees that will carry through Sunday evening. If Soroptimists are coming only for the conference, they should plan to fly into Kona by Thursday evening, May 2 and fly out again on Monday, May 6.

Governor Carol has arranged for several Hawaiian experiences to take place during the three day period of May 3-5, so those who will only be attending Conference can share in the fun. Preliminary Conference

Soroptimist International of Kona is the Host Club for the 2002 Conference.

Conference Coordinator, Mary Huebner, of the Kona club has provided the following conference highlights.

Various conference forms and information from the Call (including hotel and registration forms, the tentative conference agenda, and info on activities) will be posted on the conference page on the main portion of this site while applicable.

Logistics:

Dates: May 3, 4 and 5
Location: Ohana Keauhou Beach Resort - Oceanfront in Kailua-Kona

Other Interesting Information for Trip Planning:

Room rates are available for one week before and one week after the Conference.

  • There are non stop flights on United from San Francisco.
  • Connecting flights through Honolulu on Hawaiian.

Ground Transportation:
  • Rental Cars are available.
  • The Kona Club is also working on arranging shuttle service.
  • Taxi cabs are very expensive and not recommended.
  • There is a shuttle service operating frequently that goes between the resort and the two major local shopping and dining areas.

Activities: Discounted rates have been negotiated on the following:
  • Snorkel Sail to Kealakekua Bay
  • Sunset Dinner Cruise
  • A full day trip to the Volcano Area, including transportation and a picnic lunch. Involves walking over rough terrain

  • Golf schedules and pricing will be made available
  • Tennis is available at the Resort

All of the above activities are available at discounted rates one week before and one week after the actual conference, but must be booked through the Conference Coordinator.
