Committee Currents... Founder Region Needs You Founder Region Committees are essential to the smooth operation and implementation of Soroptimist programs and club operation. There are two types of committees: Programs of Service and Technical. Serving on a Founder Region Committee will benefit you personally by allowing you to hone your leadership and speaking skills and to gain more knowledge of Soroptimism. It can allow you to become an expert in a particular field. By serving on a Founder Region Committee, you will meet members throughout the region, make valuable friendships, and become more aware as a Soroptimist member. |

Programs of Service Committees
Some of the Programs of Service Committees are Economic and Social Development, Education, Environment, Health, Human Rights/Status of Women, (which includes Woman of Achievement, Women Helping Women, and Advancing the Status of Women) International Goodwill & Understanding, (including Friendship Links, Soroptimist Friendship Visitor Grants, United Nations), Foundations (including Violet Richardson Award, Women's Opportunity Award, Making a Difference for Women Grants), Sponsored Organizations (including S Clubs, Sigma Societies, Venture Clubs), as well as sub-committees as appointed by the Founder Region Governor or instituted by Conference action.
Technical Committees
Technical Committees are established to ensure efficient club and region operation. Some technical committees represented on the Founder Region level are Finance, Laws and Resolutions, Legislative Advocacy, Member Services (including Recruitment and Retention, Extension {i.e. chartering of new clubs}) Soroptimist Orientation and Leadership Training), Nominating (the chair is appointed by the governor, the balance of the committee are elected, one member per district), Redwood Memorial Grove, Public Relations, Founder Region Roster, and Webmaster.
Annual Meeting
There is an annual meeting of all Founder Region Committees. The first meeting of the biennium is when goals, plans, brainstorming occurs. The first meeting of the biennium for the committees serving for 2002-2004 will be held June 28-29, 2002, during the Founder Region Leadership Training Retreat, at Walker Creek Ranch, Petaluma, CA. The meeting is chaired by the Founder Region Governor.
Governor-Elect Coordinates Committees
It is the responsibility of the Governor-Elect to coordinate the Founder Region Committees. Some committees meet more often than others do. Some are more labor intensive for a brief period of time such as the Founder Region Roster and Finance Committees, and committees with deadlines such as the Violet Richardson Award, the Women's Opportunity Award and the awards coordinated by the Human Rights/Status of Women Committee. Meetings can be held via conference calls, email, or in person. Whenever a committee meets, both the Founder Region Governor and Governor-Elect must be notified in advance of the meeting, as they are both ex-officio members of all committees except the Nominating Committee.
Some committees are active all year. Committee members should be willing to be available to speak at club meetings when invited to do so. Some are requested to make presentations at Founder Region Leadership Retreat, District Meetings and Founder Region Conference. All committees are required to make reports to the Governor-Elect of Founder Region when requested to do so. Some are requested to write articles for the FounderLink Newsletter. Some write materials to be used within Founder Region.
Each committee has a designated budget allowance for the biennium. From this allowance, committee members can vouch for mileage, telephone, fax, and copy expenses. Vouchers for expenses are submitted to the Chair of the committee, who in turn forwards to the Founder Region Governor for approval and payment by the Founder Region Treasurer
You are encouraged to sign up for a Region Committee! In order to do so, or to obtain further information regarding Founder Region Committees, please contact the Governor-Elect.
